Description
The Land Office inventory, created by Archives staff, was “designed to facilitate access to the records and contains an administrative history of the Land Office, a list of registers, a list of agents of the Northern Neck, and a glossary of terms.” Each series of records is described in a paragraph that notes the size, date range, type of record, and information typically found in the record. One hundred forty separate record series are described. The records beginning with the dispersal of land to the early settlers and continuing to this day are the most complete of Virginia’s record groups. Its records provide information on original landowners in burned record counties, migration patterns, and even military service. (1981; reprint 2001).
