An Eighteenth Century Scandal by Sara Martin: In April 1793, a scathing letter appeared in The Virginia Gazette and General Advertizer. The letter was signed “Richard Randolph, jun.” Randolph’s letter leads to a startling story about a young woman named Ann Cary Randolph (1774-1837), known as Nancy in her youth, who was born into wealth and privilege near Tuckahoe, Virginia.
