Just because someone owns land does not mean they reside in an area or have ever resided there. It usually takes more than one record to answer a question. A will may show who they are, but not necessarily where they are or ever will be. It takes multiple records to answer most research questions.
County records—probate and marriage are the first go-to’s for most researchers; however, while they can answer our questions so can a multitude of other records—manuscripts housed in a variety of repositories—even in a desk drawer—can help us follow the trail to the answer we seek.
