Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, Vol. 62, No. 4 Now Available

The latest issue of the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy is now available to members and the print copy is on its way.

An excerpt from “In This Issue: It’s Probably Not About Your Family,” reminds us there are no shortcuts to finding your family and that discovering new resources and methodologies are more likely to lead to success.

So many individuals join organizations expecting to solve their research brick walls only to leave in a year or two because their family never appears in its pages. The problem is that people often belong to organizations expecting shortcuts in their research. What they should be looking for are resources (references to caches of local papers in a research institution, ledgers and journals from local businesses, diaries that tell about events and methodology—how to examples described by other researchers). Because journals typically focus on the area in which they are produced, they tend to point out sources and methods that are more likely to produce results in their area. So, this issue is probably not about your family, but hopefully, it will help you find your family.
